So it’s been while since I posted due to me being wrapped up with a challenge on Instagram called “ICAD 2015.” I will post some updates but you can follow my more frequent arty adventures so make sure to follow me on Instagram as well. Basically ICAD (index card a day) is about creating art every day on a small doable scale. Since it’s on an index card (3” x 5”) it makes it fun to give it a go. It’s allowed me to find my True North back to creating art and I’ve been able to test out ideas that I can now take on to a larger scale.
Today I’m sharing a much larger piece I have been working on to enter at the amazing Kim Dellow “Show Your Face Friday” challenge. Kim is a total talent and a sweetie so go on over and check out her July 10, 2015 Show Your Face.
Soooo, my entry represents my search for my inner true North. This is a drawing I did to showcase what a person’s inner compass might look like. If I come up with an image that I think I might use in multiple pieces I will sketch it out, scan it in and then use a Wacom board to create my own line art as I did here.
This is my first attempt at coloring a face with watercolor using the lux Kuretake Gansai watercolor set. I used a mixed media approach to coloring her skin tone non-traditionally that is so forgiving. Here’s a close-up of the face so you can see the colors better.
I have a ways to go on blending but was happy with this attempt. Her headdress was something I also drew, transferred onto tissue paper, cut out to glue on top of her head. The headdress was painted using acrylics. I really wanted the focus to be her so I stayed minimal on the background with some light touches of stencil using a Crafters Workshop Cubist stencil.
Hope you enjoyed and if you did please show me your love by subscribing and or leaving a comment 🙂
The face is beautiful…I love the colors.
Thanks Janet for the love appreciate it and your art is amazing 🙂
this is stunning! I love how the face positively glows off the background and is highlighted by the “compass” !
Thanks so much for the love Linda 😀
Oh yous is making me blush 🙂 I love her and all the elements that went into making this page. Great watercolouring the blending works beautifully. What an amazing theme, I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching recently, or perhaps I should think of it more as realigning my compass and finding my true north, that totally speaks to me. I am so glad you shared, thank you for linking up to #ShowYourFace and for the lovely shout out (trying not to blush). Have a lovely weekend Susana. Kx
