I have always been fascinated with Van Gogh’s art especially Starry Night. So this piece is inspired from that work.
It started with the background where I applied Tattered Angel along with Art Anthology sprays. I then cover it all by using a very large soft mop brush with clear gesso, my favorite being Pebeo transparent gesso, that seals the layer fairly well for me. But as with all water based sprays I try not to push it as I’m adding items to the project. As with anything, always test it out on a sample piece first. Now if you use a mica based spray most sealers will pull of the shiny mica but still leave you with a cool base color like you see here. It does take some practice. I had started out thinking about using string art for the clouds but changed my mind and used a Mayco stamp instead (all of which you’ll see below).

I then hand trimmed some designer paper that had musical notes and created the mountains. I got the shading in the mountains by using paint with Golden’s glaze to help push around the color and still see the pattern. I then cut out various dies and used paint to color them and Colourarte Silks to highlight them and get the effect of light hitting things from the harvest moon. I then used Chocolate Baroque, Clearsnap and Designs by Ryn stamps to create this light show in the sky. I added the owls from Stampotique as I loved the slight haunted vibe it gave the night.
Check out the texture I got on the Impression Obsession fir tree using the Tim Holtz’s Craft Scratcher tool.
The center image tree with words is a Stampendous Tree Poem stamp. This tree was created using Ferro and gave me the leafy dimension I was looking for – very cool stuff.
For the minature lovers out there check out this version of Tree Poem in mini form LOVE IT!!!
The texture in the moon was created using a Impression Obsession ornament die using modeling paste.
Notice how by using Silks from Colourarte I was able to achieve the glow from the harvest moon.
I love the “Owls on Branches” stamp from Stampotique.
I’m entering this in the Anything But A Card Challenge.
I hope you enjoyed and if you did please show me your love by subscribing.
