1st off I will occasionally post up things I have colored for the sheer joy of it – not to journal or mixed media it away but just the sheer joy of how something came out (I hope) đ
I have always been fascinated with how light plays on items. Not so much in the light source manner but in the way it creates transparency, opaqueness, color shadows (think petal lying over another petal), layers etc.
So literally and figuratively I played in the bloom of each petal using the watercolor technique of blooms. I am not by a long shot a pro at watercolor but I tried to capture an idea I had to take a sunflower and see if I could get the petals to look like they were on fire. Now I will caveat it by saying it is not photo realism but the idea of how light plays in a flame and see if I could capture the mood thru media. How do you play in a bloom so tiny? Â I used embossing to create the âwellâ that would hold my tiny drop of water as I added colors to create each flame petal.
TA DA I came up with this using Stampendousâ Sunflower Ladybug rubber stamp.
I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi 36 Color Set Solid Watercolors. Let me tell you these watercolors are like butter and seriously, a litttttttle goes a long way. The manufacture take their time making this product. I have heard it takes days to make a color and they only make 3 colors at a time. This will become your new âprecioussssssâ đ You donât have to be a pro to use em they are very forgiving in that I have blotted away a few boo booâs.
I hope you enjoyed and if you did please show me your love by subscribing and/or leaving a comment.
Gorgeous, Susanna! On fire indeed. Brilliant using embossing to contain the color. I LOVE sunflowers. xxD
Thanks for the love Donna made my day <3
Love this one…. so fiery it is white hot! Indeed those watercolors are great fun. <3 <3 <3
Thanks <3
A beautiful watercolor creation. Love the intensity of colors – they do look like the fiery brilliance of the sun shining on them.

Thanks for the love <3
I may be commenting but you do not need to reply on all these. I think your watercolor aptitude is quite great! I use a Koi set so I can travel with it. I got a small one to see how I do and I love gluing paper towels and using the watercolor on top of them. In fact I learned this from Jennibellie’s tutorials. Using used paper towels. The watercolor just flows over them. Watercolor is so tricky!
I do the same thing cept I use the towel as a base when I spray mist which really are watercolor in a bottle love the way it lays down in the knooks and crannies đ
